Some games are just inherently addictive, and Bananagrams is a classic example. You have been warned - Bananagrams is a highly portable heaven for wordsmiths. The real joy of Banagrams lies in its simplicity. Learning the rules takes one minute, and all ages and abilities can join in. A grid made up of mainly three letter words is just as good as one made up of mainly eight letter words!

We're not too sure why the game is called Bananagrams. It does come in a quirky banana shaped bag but it is doesn't have an awful lot to do with anagrams. It is however a superb game, and anyone with a love of Speed Scrabble (without the playing board) will adore Bananagrams. The zippered banana skin contains 144 letter squares and the game can be played by just yourself, or up to eight players.

First you tip out all the letters and turn them face down, then each player takes 21 tiles leaving the remainder in a pile in the middle. Shout 'Split' once you have turned over your tiles and start making your own grid of intersecting words. The moment you've created a grid using all your letters, shout 'Peel' and every player must take another tile, whether they have a complete grid or not. If you have a letter you just can't fit into your grid, you can shout 'Dump' and put it back into the pile - but you have to take three extra letters from the pile as a penalty. Play continues until there are fewer tiles left than there are players, and the victor (hopefully you) has a complete grid, with no bizarre words - which would disqualify you!

It's fast and furious and deeply addictive, and the neat zip-lock banana case makes it super-portable (great for airports, holidays and taking round to mates' houses). All in all Bananagrams is a high-speed adrenalin scrabble without the board or the maths, and it perks your brain up no end!
